Oscar-nominated documentarian Danfung Dennis has designed an amazing way to control video by moving your tablet, creating an incredible first person experience.

The best part, it doesn’t require any special camera to shoot, the software does all the work.

It seems misleading when he says that it doesn’t require a special camera to shoot, because it obviously does need a special camera set-up to work. You can tell that by looking at it. Your camera isn’t going to magically capture 360º images in real time.

On his site, he says:

Condition ONE has developed a camera system (I can’t yet reveal the camera or number of cameras) that captures the equivalent of the human eye.  We have also developed the software that transcodes and stitches these images.

It’s definitely a great idea, and the software that translates the images into an immersive iPad experience—without any distortion of perspective—seems to be pretty magical. But I would imagine that the rig required to capture the images would have to involve some complicated rigging, that would basically make the photographer a two-legged Google Maps van.
