I mean, I guess the Mediterranean Sea isn’t more important than the Arabian or anything…
To avoid confusion, I’m saying the creator of this picture is quite the idiot.

Seeing as Iran and Syria don’t share a border, Syria would not be a very effective route to the Mediterranean Sea for Iran. They would have to go through Iraq or Turkey first.
Now, it is true that the criticism is almost as simplistic as his original statement. Syria is an important ally to Iran, and is seen as a route for giving support to Hezbollah in Lebanon. If Syria’s regime were to fall, depending on who ended up taking its place, Iran would be more isolated in the region. But the “route to the sea” sound bite that Romney repeatedly uses is kind of meaningless out of context. Is he talking about the proposed Iran-Iraq-Syria pipeline? Is he imagining Iranian armies marching to the Mediterranean, like the Persian armies of yore?
To avoid confusion, I’m saying Romney has not done a good job of portraying himself as more knowledgeable or savvy about foreign relations than Obama. Also, I like cute puppies dressed as scientists.
